Construction begins on Asia’s largest hangar

Work has begun on three airplane hangars in Shanghai that measure a total of 110,000 sq m, according to Chinese state news agency Xinhua.

The largest of the trio will have a 316m span, a 146m depth and will be able to accommodate work on nine wide-body aircraft at once.

China Eastern Airlines has invested $211m in the project, which contains workshops and facilities for repair and refitting work.

The project is due to be completed in the first half of 2026.
