Tunisia’s culture ministry and French agency Expertise France are offering €50,000 to the architect who devises the best plan to update the archeological site of Carthage, the ancient foe of Rome.
Open to architects around the world, the challenge is to update the Acropolis of Byrsa and rehabilitate the Carthage National Museum.
The project aims to find the best revitalisation concept for the site in light of its designation as a Unesco World Heritage monument.
The jury will select first through to fifth place winners, who will get comparable payouts. The fifth place prize is €30,000.
Contestants have until 5 January 2023 to submit their concepts.
Judges on the panel include:

- Meriem Chabani, Architect and urban planner, New South, France/Algeria;
- Momoyo Kaijima, Architect, Atelier Bow Wow, Japan.
The contest is supported by the European Union and the International Union of Architects (UIA).
