France’s Egis has won a site supervision consultant contract for Riyadh’s new 3.6km monorail for the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD).

It will have six two-car trains operating on an elevated one-way loop, connected to six stations embedded within public buildings.

Egis will supervise rolling stock, rail systems, civil and structural works, MEP, architecture and utilities, monitoring method statements, material submittals, compliance and quality control.

The monorail will be connected to the broader Riyadh Metro, which Egis also worked on.

KAFD already has the world’s longest skywalk network, which is 15km long.

The monorail will create “a unique 10-minute city for the district’s office workers, residents and visitors”, said Faddy AlAql, chief asset delivery officer for the KAFD Development and Management Company.
