Facebook to open big new King’s Cross office

Social media giant Facebook has announced plans to lease 56,700 sq m of space for a new UK headquarters in King’s Cross.

Spread across three buildings, the HQ will consolidate the firm’s two current offices in Rathbone Place and Brock Street, and will be able to house 6,000 staff.

Facebook’s new offices will be located in the Western Yards development, and were designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and Bennetts Associates.

Rob Cookson, Facebook’s head of global real estate, said: "Our base in London has grown from four people to become our biggest engineering hub outside of the US, and by the end of this year, 2,300 people will be working for Facebook in the UK.

"London is home to teams that build some of Facebook’s significant global products like Workplace, social VR applications for Oculus, and the tools that protect our community around the world."

Facebook’s HQ is due to open in 2021 and will be close to Google’s BIG and Heatherwick-designed offices.
