Danish and Finnish turbine manufacturers Vestas and TuuliWatti have partnered to create a 21MW wind farm in Viinamäki in Finland.
The project will contain five V150 4.2MW turbines, each measuring 175m, the highest all-steel turbines in history. The record for the tallest is presently held by Max Bögl Wind’s 178m-high units in Gaildorf, German.
The contract includes the supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines, and their operation for the next 25 years.
The two firms have also signed a 10-year testing agreement at the site.Â
Nils de Baar, Vestas Northern and Central Europe president, said: "Onshore wind is already one of the most competitive power generation sources and Viinamäki shows how innovations across the entire value chain enable Vestas to offer sustainable energy solutions that increase customer value."Â
The turbines will begin turning in the second quarter of 2019.
