Three subsidiaries of contractor FlatironDragados have been spun off to form a civil construction business in New York and New Jersey.

The three units concerned – Schiavone Construction, John P Picone and EE Cruz & Company – will now be known as SPC Construction.

The new company will specialise in tunnelling, mass transit, bridges, highways, deep foundations, marine works and water treatment plants.

The aim is to bring together Picone’s skills in tunnelling and water infrastructure, with EE Cruz’s focus on deep foundations, bridges and geotechnical projects, and Schiavone’s specialty subways, highways, marine work and water treatment plants.

SPC Construction will be led by members of each of the three legacy companies, with Jesus Diez as managing director, Joe Sheehan as chief operating officer and Neil Wegman as chief financial officer.

Javier Sevilla, FlatironDragados’ chief executive, said: “This is a major step forward in the unification and transformation of FlatironDragados.

“The synergies among these three organisations enable a simplified structure that will ensure a consistent approach to operations, client success and risk management by SPC Construction.”

The leadership team will now work with FlatironDragados to determine the structure, processes and technology required to run the company.
