Flexible faculty: Skanska wins $124m contract for University of Gothenburg

Skanska has signed a contract with Sweden’s academic developer, Akademiska Hus, to build a new building for the Faculty of Science at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

The $124m (SEK 1.2 billion) contract will help the university gather the activities of the Faculty of Science in one place. It has about 3,000 students and around 600 staff.

The project includes two new seven-storey buildings with an intermediate structure containing an atrium and meeting rooms, covering 32,000 sq m.

The facility will house advanced laboratories, class rooms and offices.

Skanska said the premises will have a flexible design that can be changed according to the university’s future needs.

In addition, a connecting building of about 2,000 square meters will be rebuilt.

Construction will start immediately, and the project will be completed in the second quarter of 2023.

Skanska is booking the order for the fourth quarter of 2019.
