German observatory painted to resemble R2-D2

A small team recruited by a Hubert Zitt, a professor at Germany’s University of Kaiserslautern, has painted an observatory to resemble the R2-D2 droid from Star Wars.

Located in the southwestern German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the observatory is perfectly shaped to match R2-D2.

Designboom notes that Professor Zitt often incorporates science fiction series such as Star Wars and Star Trek into his lectures at the university.

Luke Skywalker, or at least the actor who played him, has given the building his seal of approval.
