Giant Chinese builder wins $1.3bn London scheme

The world’s biggest global contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), has won its first major UK project.

In a joint venture with UK firm Interserve, CSCEC will build the $1.3bn (£900m) One Nine Elms luxury residential and hotel project (pictured) near London’s South Bank, UK newspaper Construction News reported today.

The developer is China’s commercial property and entertainment conglomerate, Dalian Wanda Group.

One Nine Elms comprises two KPF-designed towers at 45 and 60 storeys in height, incorporating 439 homes and a luxury hotel that will operate under the Dalian Wanda brand.

The project is expected to complete in 2018.

Last year Engineering News-Record ranked CSCEC as the world’s biggest global contractor, meaning it had the biggest contracting revenue ($543.97bn) from projects outside its home country.
