Giant polar bear lights up Manchester

Polo, a 6m-long, 2.5m-high polar bear statue, has taken up residence in Manchester city centre.

The beast was commissioned by property developer New Bailey and designed by local firm Lazerian. It is made from white aluminium and lights up in the evening to create a constellation effect.

Liam Hopkins, founder of Lazerian, said: "The reaction to the installed bear has been phenomenal, proving a real hit on social media, which is a big part of the effect that clients like New Bailey want to encourage as they make unmissable art and design, that people feel they can interact with, a vital part of the experience of living and working in new, contemporary city environments."

It is unknown if Polo will make his or her way back to the Arctic Circle after departing New Bailey in early 2017.
