Google has announced plans to invest $1bn in building a 158,000 sq m campus on the western side of lower Manhattan.
The development will be in three locations: at 315 and 345 Hudson Street and 550 Washington Street. The Hudson Street addresses, which will be the company’s main New York base, will be completed by 2020, and Washington Street by 2022.
The company says it has put $150m into "grants and employee-matched giving to New York nonprofit institutions" since 2011.
Google employs 7,000 staff in the city, and earlier this year spent $2.4bn on buying another property in Manhattan.
The tech company’s decision follows recent expansions in the city by Amazon and Apple.
