Gravel to asphalt: Chinese firms in Ethiopian highway bonanza

Four Chinese construction companies have won contracts totalling $188.5m to build 299km of new roads in Ethiopia.

The four contracts awarded by the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) will upgrade gravel roads to asphalt.

Xinhua reports that Ningxia Communications Construction Company won a $45m project,  which is anticipated to be completed in three years. 

China Railway 14 Bureau Group’s $58m project is anticipated to take three years as well.

Hebei Construction Group’s $46m project will also take three years, while China Railway Seventh Group’s $49m is scheduled for completion in 3.5 years.
