Homeowners may be forced to pay for the construction of a new $2.2bn highway in India under plans to seek financing for public infrastructure from the private sector.
The 260-kilometre Delhi-Jaipur highway will give rise to the construction of new townships on almost 20,000 hectares of land, reports Times of India.

Government ministers will decide today whether to go forward with the idea which involves adding a 2% surcharge to commercial and residential properties springing up along the highway route.
