India’s Larsen & Toubro wins job on Abu Dhabi’s airport expansion

India’s Larsen & Toubro has won a contract worth $256m to build airside infrastructure for the Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC), a major expansion programme at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

L&T will build concrete hard stands for aircraft parking, plus taxi lanes and taxiway connections – including a tunnel – to the existing airside.

The MTC is a major expansion programme at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Major item of works include earthwork, pavements, drainage, general utilities, airfield ground lighting, gate services such as flood lighting, visual dock guidance system and structural works for airside tunnel.

The MTC project consists of a Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) and related airside and landside work to boost passenger handling capacity by up to 40 million a year.

L&T’s project starts this month (April) and is scheduled to last 28 months. The MTC is expected to open in 2017.
