Italy’s Saipem joins “Cement King” to target African engineering

Italian engineer Saipem has teamed up with African giant Dangote Group to target the oil and gas engineering market in Africa.

Known as Africa’s "cement king", Aliko Dangote (pictured) is the richest man in Africa, sitting astride a conglomerate that sells everything from cement and telecoms to milk and macaroni.

The new company, Saipem Dangote E&C, hopes to cash in on Dangote’s financial strength and standing in sub-Saharan Africa, and will bid for complex engineering and construction projects in Nigeria, Central and West Africa.

Saipem, for its part, has been conducting operations in Nigeria for over 50 years.

Saipem Contracting Nigeria Ltd operates principally as an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for turn-key projects including oil, gas and water pipelines, oil, gas and industrial plants, infrastructures, fabrication of offshore structures and maintenance services.
