John Holland to deliver South Australia’s largest private hospital

Australia’s John Holland Group and developer Commercial & General have signed a contract to deliver the new US$220m Calvary Adelaide Hospital.

The 12-storey, 350 bed facility will replace the existing Calvary Wakefield Hospital in the central business district.

Announcing the deal this week, John Holland said it was "South Australia’s largest private hospital".

The new facility will be 50% larger than the existing hospital, enabling Calvary to meet clinical demand.

After development the hospital will be leased back to Calvary on a long term contract.

Executive General Manager, Development & Investments, Tom Roche said the project is a sign of success for John Holland’s new business model.

"John Holland will both construct and invest in this project," he said. "This project is evidence of our ability to provide end-to-end solutions for our clients, and we intend to emulate this on new projects in the future."

Construction is scheduled to begin this year.

John Holland was bought by state-owned China Communications Construction Company from Leighton Holdings last year for US$880m.
