Indian conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will build and operate the country’s biggest green hydrogen plant at a state-owned refinery in Panipat, Haryana.
Powered by renewable energy, it will produce 10,000 tonnes of hydrogen a year for 25 years using high-pressure alkaline electrolysers, a process L&T hopes will be adopted by other refineries and fertiliser plants.
Subramanian Sarma, L&T’s president, L&T, said: “The decision to set up India’s maiden green hydrogen plant validates our strategy to lead the nation’s energy transition.
“As a first mover in India’s green hydrogen space, we are proud to lay the foundation for cleaner industrial processes at scale.”
