The UAE arm of Australian contractor Leighton has won another phase of the $817m Jewel of the Creek development in Dubai’s Port Saeed district.

Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) is to deliver "package 8" of the mixed-use scheme, which comprises  the construction of a marina, five bridges and five hospitality buildings. The buildings will  range between 15 and 19 floors and will accommodate a five-star hotel, four serviced apartment towers, and a ballroom with an attached café. The total value of the scheme is $395m.

When fully built, the development will have 18 main buildings surrounding the marina. The buildings comprise: a convention centre with ballroom and recreation centre, a 17-storey luxury hotel, a 17-storey four-star hotel and serviced apartment building, eight 19-storey apartment buildings, three 17-storey office towers and four 19-storey serviced apartment buildings.

HLG has been involved with this project since July 2011, when it was appointed to construct four basement levels and ground-floor slabs on the waterside site between Al Maktoum Bridge, Baniyas Road and the Floating Bridge.

Construction works on package 8 are scheduled to commence in the third quarter of this year and completion is targeted for the third quarter of 2017. The client is Dubai International Real Estate. Leighton have recently won other large contracts, both in Dubai and the Philippines.
