Arup appointed technical advisor for Canberra light rail

An Arup-led consortium has been appointed technical advisor for the Canberra light rail scheme in Australia. 

The new Capital Metro will stretch 12km from the city centre to the developing suburbs of Gungahlin. 

The contract was awarded by the Capital Metro Agency, responsible for delivering the project. 

The design work will be delivered in phases before the second half of 2014. Construction is due to start in 2016. 

Arup previously worked on Australia’s Gold Coast Light Rail and Sydney Light Rail. 

The consortium includes light rail expertise from Hassell and Parsons Brinckerhoff with local specialist consultants Brown Consulting, LandDATA Surveys, Phillip Chun Access, SLR Consulting, GML Heritage and dsb Landscape Architects.
