Hong Kong-based Gammon Construction has formed a joint venture with Vinci subsidiary Soletanche Bachy on a US$471m to work on a metro project in Singapore.

Gammon, which is part-owned by UK contractor Balfour Beatty, will handle the $470m first stage of the Cross Island Line, Singapore’s eighth mass rail transit route.

The joint venture will work on an extension of Ang Mo Kio station, which will be used as an intersection between lines.

The development will serve communities in eastern, northeastern and western Singapore, linking hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and the Changi region.

When completed in 2030, the travelling time between Ang Mo Kio and Aviation Avenue will be shortened by 70 minutes and Ang Mo Kio and Pasir Ris by 35 minutes.
