Eiffage subsidiary Eiffage Génie Civil has been named preferred bidder for a €190m contract to design and build a 7km section of the E18 motorway in Norway. It will connect the towns of Langangen and Rugtvedt.
Tendered by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport, the project involves building four viaducts totalling 1.5km in length, including the new Grenland cable stayed bridge with a main span of 330m, and boring just under a kilometre of tunnels.
Eiffage worked on the tender with Afry and Greisch design offices and Norwegian firm Bertelsen & Garpestad AS. Bridge expert Michel Virlogeux helped with the Grenland bridge.
Contract signing is set to take place in December 2020, and completion is scheduled for summer 2025.
Eiffage is dealing with Nye Veier (meaning "new roads"), a company owned by Norway’s transport ministry that is responsible for commissioning 530km of roads between now and 2029, for a total investment of almost €50bn.
Eiffage said it is now eyeing another contract on the E18, estimated at €260m in value, due to be awarded in about a year. This involves building a 10km section with 5.8km of twin-tube tunnels.
