EllisDon starts mandatory mass Covid testing on construction sites

With daily new Covid cases remaining stubbornly buoyant in Ontario, Canadian contractor EllisDon has begun mandatory mass testing on big construction sites in the province.

All EllisDon project staff, site personnel and subcontractors in areas with high infection rates, such as the Greater Toronto Area, must take the rapid antigen test, which gives results in 15 minutes.

"Through our Rapid Antigen Test Pilot we are working to build stability and safe workplaces during an unstable time," said Steve Chaplin, the company’s vice president for health, safety and environment.

"While working closely with our government officials, we have the moral obligation to do everything we can to protect our employees and the communities in which we build."

Embracing the provincial ministry of health’s rapid antigen test pilot, the contractor started voluntary testing in December, but made it mandatory amid rising cases in February.
