Ferrovial joint ventures win Australia and Poland highway projects

A consortium consisting of German company Heilit+Woerner and Ferrovial Agroman subsidiary Budimex has won a contract to build a 15km section of Expressway S5 between Wroclaw and Korzensko in south-west Poland, worth $151m. 

The contract also includes building two new junctions, 11 bridges, service areas, and upgrading adjacent roads.  

When the project is complete, Expressway S5 will connect Wrocław with Poznań, providing a direct link between southwest Poland and the port city of Gdańsk via the junction with the A1 motorway. 

It is due to be finished in two and a half years. 

The Polish government has approved a roads plan for 2014-2017 with a budget of approximately $11.4bn.  

Budimex has already been involved in the construction of several sections of the A1, A2 and A4 motorways in Poland. 

An Acciona Ferrovial joint venture has also been awarded a contract for the design and construction of the 20km Pacific Highway duplication between Warrell Creek and Nambucca Heads in Australia. 

The development will make the highway into a four-lane divided road between the Allgomera deviation, south of Warrell Creek and Nambucca Heads. 

The project is funded 80% by the federal government and 20% by the state government. Construction is due to start this year. 

The company recently won a $194m Saudi Arabian road contract and are to bid for Australian contractor John Holland, Spanish media say.  

Ferrovial revenues increased by 11% in the first half of 2014, to $5.56bn.
