Leighton secures hotel, convention centre project in India

Leighton India Contractors, a part of Leighton Asia, India Offshore Group, has secured a $26m civil and structural works contract for an international convention centre and Grand Hyatt Hotel on Bolgatty Island in Kochi, India for the Lulu Group.

The project occupies a construction area of approximately 69,000 sq m and includes a 250-room hotel and convention centre.

Construction is scheduled to start this month with a completion target of July 2015.

This is Leighton India’s second project in Kochi, in the state of Kerala, after the Tritvam Residential project now being delivered for TATA, and it represents its first "significant involvement" with the Lulu Group.

"We are delighted to have secured our first project with one of Southern India’s largest and most respected developers," said Jim Salmon, Leighton India’s MD.

Ian Edwards, MD of Leighton Asia, India and Offshore said his company has ambitions to become a "sought-after contractor in India’s complex building sector".
