M&S store first in India to get LEED Platinum

2 May 2013

Turner & Townsend has worked with Marks & Spencer in India to ensure one of its retail stores became the first in the country to gain LEED Platinum certification.

LEED Platinum certification is the highest rating under the internationally-recognised green building rating system awarded by the US Green Building Council.

"We’re really proud to be the first retailer in the country to be awarded the platinum rating from LEED," said Marks & Spencer Reliance India managing director Venu Nair.

Turner & Townsend advised on life-cycle costing, enabling M&S to take key decisions towards reducing its operational costs while targeting LEED certification.

The store at South Extension, New Delhi, is also the first M&S store overseas to receive this highest internationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.

It’s the British retailer’s 25th store in India.
