Saudi Government to spend $2.6bn on roads

The government of Saudi Arabia has announced that it will assign $2.6bn to road development in the kingdom.

Of that, $1.6bn will be used to build a 135km dual-carriageway linking the Asir and Jizan regions in the south-west corner of the peninsula, between Yemen and the Red Sea. The road will run from the Al-Far’a recreation park in the south of Abha, the capital of Asir province, to Beesh in the north of Jizan region.

Another $1bn will be spent linking the Mecca and Jizan regions via Asir. The project will include all the required services and accommodation.

Ferrovial recently won a $194m contract to upgrade an access road to Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia is developing its countryside to ease city overcrowding.

The Saudi Railways Organisation has announced plans to spend $97bn on a modern rail network linking all the provinces in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by 2040.
