Skanska awarded $168m hospital expansion contract

Skanska has signed a $168m contract with Uppsala County in Sweden for the construction of a healthcare and treatment building at the University Hospital in the city.

The building will have a total area of 59,500 square metres, and will contain facilities for advanced healthcare and treatment activities in oncology, radiotherapy and surgery. It aims to strengthen the hospital and meet the needs of a growing population.

The project hopes to obtain the highest "gold" rating in Sweden’s Miljöbyggnad environmental classification system.

Construction will start the first quarter of 2015 and will be completed in the summer of 2017.
