Skanska has signed a five-year, $334.9m contract with Los Angeles World Airports, the operator of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), to undertake 16 projects to ease congestion and improve movement in the third busiest airport in the world.
Skanska will be design-builder for the airport authority’s Roadways, Utilities and Enabling (RUE) project at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), designed to relieve congestion at and second busiest in the US.
The contract comes as LAX pursues its landside access modernisation programme, which will feature an automated people mover (pictured) and a consolidated rent-a-car centre.
The RUE contract consists of 16 projects, including:
- The 98th Street extension, which will extend that roadway from where it currently ends at Bellanca Avenue to the 405 Freeway – and where improvements to the southbound freeway on- and off-ramps will also be completed;
- Extensive utility work within the LAX Central Terminal Area; and
- Construction of new wayfinding signage for navigating LAX after the airport’s landside access modernisation programme.
Individual RUE projects have been advanced by LAWA to a minimum of 30% design completion, and in some cases to 100% design completion.
The project will be completed in Fall 2025.
