Spain’s OHL wins $368m bus corridor contract in Florida

Florida’s Department of Transportation and Public Works has awarded Obrascón Huarte Lain (OHL) a $368m design-and-build contract to create a 14-station bus corridor in Miami.

The South Dade Transitway will run for 32km across five of south Florida’s municipalities. The stations should be convertible to rail and built using sustainable materials.

The Spanish contractors’ US subsidiary, OHL Building, will also rehabilitate existing stations across 16 locations, including 32 shelters, with two terminals located at Dadeland South and SW344th Street.

The south corridor is the first in a series of six strategic Miami area rapid transit plan (SMART) developments to move towards construction.
