Tenders scrapped in Florida airport project

26 July 2013

Firms competing for a $736.2 million design-build contract to make over Florida’s Tampa International Airport will have to bid all over again after the tender process was scrapped.

The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority was scheduled to award the contract at its 1 August meeting but decided to start again because of reported “confusion” over requirements for minority contracting.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal reported that the Authority released a statement saying there was “some confusion about whether the requirements for minority contracting referred to the overall project or elements of the project” and that it had decided to begin the tender process again.

No date has been set to begin soliciting new proposals for the project.

Eight firms, some international, were competing for the contract including Archer Western Construction, Austin Commercial, Balfour Beatty Construction, Clark Construction Group, Hensel Phelps, Odebrecht Construction, Skanska USA Building Co. and Turner Construction.
