Four workers are reported to have died and one to have been injured on Friday after a tunnel being built for a hydroelectric project collapsed in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
The project for state-run National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) involves building three, 600m-long diversion tunnels.
"Last evening one of the tunnels caved in while drilling work was underway in the tunnel," Chinese news agency Xinhua reports an unnamed official as saying on Saturday. "Five workers were trapped under the debris, of which four were killed and one injured."Â
The official said the bodies of the deceased had been recovered.
India Today reports that the accident took place in Pancha Nalla near Garsa Bhuntar in Kullu.Â
It said six labourers were on site at the time.
Rescue teams and ambulances rushed to the scene.
