Vinci Concessions has been awarded a 30-year public–private partnership by German state company DEGES to build a road linking Bad Langensalza and Mühlhausen in central Germany.

The €500m B247 agreement covers the design, financing, construction, maintenance and operation of the 22km road as well as 6km of crossing sections.

The aim is to reduce traffic on Thuringia’s highways and create direct connections across the region. Some 15,000 vehicles are expected to use the route each day, 15% of which will be heavy trucks.

One feature of the agreement is that all the concrete and almost a third of asphalt from the existing road will be reused.

The project will be carried out by Eurovia Deutschland and Vinci Construction Terrassement and is due to take four years.

The B247 is the first German federal road attributed to a private operator under a PPP scheme.
