Seymour Whyte, the Australian subsidiary of French contractor Vinci, has been awarded an €86m road upgrade contract in Melbourne.
The project in southeast Melbourne’s fast-growing Dandenong South area aims to relieve traffic pressure by connecting South Gippsland Highway to Abbotts Road.
The development will also improve access in and around the Dandenong South employment hub and increase the traffic flow into the industrial precinct.
Construction on the project includes widening 2km of Pound Road West and Remington Drive from two to four lanes, as well as building a bridge over Cranbourne rail line to connect Pound Road West and Remington Drive.
Upgrades will be made to four intersections, shared walking and cycling paths will be created and the bridge over the Cranbourne and Pakenham rail line at Frankston-Dandenong Road will be strengthened.
Seymour Whyte is targeting an "excellent" rating from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia and will use cement reduction techniques and recycled plastic in place of steel reinforcing mesh.
Construction work will start in October 2021 and will take two years.
