Work starts on $750m Boston skyscraper offering ‘the best of everything’

US developer Carpenter & Company has begun work on a $750m skyscraper at 1 Dalton Street in Boston, Massachusetts.

The 700ft tower will have 61 storeys. The lower 24 will contain the city’s second Four Seasons Hotel, and floors 25 to 61 will house 180 luxury condominiums.

Richard Friedman, the chief executive of Carpenter & Company, said: "This will be the highest quality ever built in the city. It has 11ft ceilings, a fireplace in every condo, the best kitchens, the best everything."

The building will also have two public restaurants, two lounges, and an owners-only restaurant club on the 50th storey. A public park will be built at the base of the building.

Construction is 80% financed by investors from 26 countries, and equity from Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Gregory Vasil, chief executive of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board, told The Boston Globe: "I think people have got to realise that we’re not good old Boston anymore.

"We are a different place, and that’s reflected in the amount of foreign investment. We’ve got people flocking here from all over the world."

Boston will now be one of only seven cities to have two Four Seasons Hotels. The project is expected to finish in 2017.
