Dubai is hoping to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest fountain ever built, with water jets that reach 105m.

The Palm Fountain is located on the Palm Jumeirah, the emirate’s famous tree-shaped peninsula made from reclaimed land. The fountain will emerge from two floating platforms covering 14,000 sq m of sea water.

The plan is to have 20 three-minute shows a day, running every half hour between 7pm and midnight. These “dancing shows” will be enhanced by 3,000 LED lights.

The fountain, which opens next Thursday, will be part of the Pointe, a 130,000 sq m leisure development offering restaurants, cinemas, supermarket, gyms and beauty salons.

Ahmed Al Khaja, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment’s chief executive, said: “The Palm Fountain is yet another incredible addition to Dubai’s list of world-famous landmarks, and is sure to be a big draw among residents and visitors alike.

“Its launch further cements the city’s status as a must-visit destination where guests from around the world can experience the best sights and sounds as well as unrivalled retail and tourist spaces.”
