Norwegian engineer to reconstruct Swedish road

Norwegian civil engineer Peab has been commissioned to carry out a reconstruction of the E45 highway in central Göthenburg.

Peab was awarded the $120m contract by the Swedish Transport Administration.

The assignment includes a lowering of the E45 from Lilla Bommen in the centre of the city to Marieholm near Malmö. The road will be moved down by 6m over a 800m stretch.

Half of that distance will be decked over, creating opportunities for building on top of the tunnel roof.

The renovation includes a bridge at Gullbergs traffic junction, which will be widened to create two through-lanes on the E45.

Construction will start in spring 2016 and the project is expected to be completed in 2020.

The project will be reported in the first quarter in 2016.

Peab was recently awarded a $40m contract for an Arctic port facility.
