“Oh My God!”: Leighton Asia to build swish studio apartment block in India

Cimic Group subsidiary Leighton Asia has been picked by an Indian developer to build a 38-storey tower in the planned city of Noida, near New Delhi, targeted at young people leaving home for the first time.

Featuring a sky bar on top to allow residents to "party among the stars", the arrestingly-named "Oh My God" development (pictured) will offer 736 studio apartments and a community atmosphere to stave off urban loneliness.

Noida is short for the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, and is billed as an up-and-coming part of the Delhi National Capital Region.

"Why would you be deprived of the all the comforts and amenities that you are used to?" asks developer Bayaweaver on its website. "Why should you end up in a one-bedroom house? Oh My God is an imaginatively designed ultra-premium studio apartment complex with built-in modern facilities, and a support infrastructure to meet a cross-section of needs."

Shaped like a giant throne, the development will also have a Radisson Red hotel.

Cimic said the contract is worth approximately $78m (A$110m).

Construction is expected to complete in mid-2022.
