Architect Aedas has unveiled its design for the 200m-tall Gmond International Building in Shenzhen, southeastern China.
The regeneration project in Shenzen old town will act as the headquarters for the Tellus-Gmond company as well as housing lettable office space and a jewellery trading centre.
The building will have 60,000 square metres of floor area and will feature exterior landscaped staircases, public platforms, eco-friendly rooftop gardens and a jewellery exhibition venue
The design of the high-rise drew inspiration from the Chinese traditional totem of "bamboo" which symbolises prosperity and moral high ground. It has three gardens placed at various points of the tower.
The building’s podium façade looks like a large bamboo leaf which contains the project’s commercial component "forming an interesting duet with the blooming tower".
The Gmond International Building is expected to be completed in 2019.
