Skanska awarded $220m Slovakia highway contract

Skanska has been awarded a contract by Slovakia’s National Highway Authority worth $220m (€197m) to extend the D1 highway in eastern Slovakia.

Work involves construction of a 14.4km section between Budimír and Bidovce, including an additional 1.1km of express road.

The project will be financed by the European Regional Development Fund, the European Investment Bank and the state budget.

The section includes a total of 23 bridges, four overpasses and noise barriers, Skanska said. The longest bridge, over the Torysa River, will be 542 meters long.

Construction is due to start in November this year and finish in December 2019.

The contract will be included in the order bookings for Skanska Czech Republic & Slovakia for the third quarter 2016.

The firm’s Czech Republic & Slovakia branch employs 4,000 workers.
