Skanska bans international travel amid pandemic

Swedish contracting giant Skanska has banned international business travel for all its 35,000 employees as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"If meetings or gatherings have been organised where participants (internal or external to Skanska) were planning to travel from country to country, we have asked our employees to host these via online meeting tools," the company said earlier this month.

It added: "If we each do our part in preventing the spread of the virus, we can help lessen the risk for everyone and keep our communities safe."

The company has established a coordination team lead by its global HR director to monitor events.

"We’ve increased the awareness in our offices and across our projects for the need to exercise good hygiene, especially hand washing," the company said. "Finally, we’ve asked any colleagues who show any symptoms of illness to stay at home. All to keep our work environments as healthy as possible."
