Skanska to build $112m highway in Czech Republic

Skanska has signed a $112m contract with the Road and Motorway Directorate of the Czech government to construct a section of the D1 motorway between Lipnik and Prerov in the east of the country.

The project includes construction of 14km of motorway, with 24 bridges, three interchanges, more than 7km of sound barriers and retaining walls.  

Construction work will start soon and is due to be completed in 2019.

Skanska Czech Republic is one of the country’s largest construction companies and had a turnover of $600m in 2014.

The company has 4,000 employees in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Skanska USA recently announced the loss of an $800m contract in the US but was awarded a $40m contract in Sweden.
