Skanska has signed a contract with Trondheim Postgård DA, owned by Reitan AS, to turn an old post office in Trondheim, Norway into a new theatre and museum.

The contact is worth around $45.4m (NOK 410m), which will be included in the Nordic order bookings for the second quarter 2022.

Called “Nye Hjorten Teater & Posten Modern Museum”, the idea is to develop a new cultural quarter in Trondheim, Norway’s third largest city and home to some 205,000 people.

Skanska will rehabilitate and convert the old post office and build a new theatre next door.

The company has been working on the development phase with the client, architect, and consultants since January 2021, it said.

Construction is expected to start in August 2022 and the facility is scheduled for completion in June 2024.
