Skanska wins $180m contract to expand Florida cardiac centre

Skanska has signed a contract with Lee Memorial Health System to expand and renovate the Gulf Coast Medical Centre in Fort Myers in Florida.

The project will involve 34,000 square metres of construction and 4,500 square metres of renovations.

Three additional floors along will be built, as well as numerous horizontal expansions and a 1,300-space parking structure.

The $200m contract was awarded to Skanska and joint venture partner Gates Construction.

Skanska will include its 89% share of the contract, worth $178m, in the order bookings for Skanska USA Building in the second quarter 2016.

The centre specialises in heart care and women’s health.

Construction will begin this month and is due to be completed in February 2021.
