South Korea’s Daelim wins $293m Saudi butanol plant project

A Saudi butanol company, Sabuco, has awarded South Korea’s Daelim Construction a $293m contract to build a butanol plant.

Construction of the plant, which will be located in Jubail Industrial City, will begin next January and is expected to be completed by May 2015, reports Reuters.

The plant will have an annual capacity of 330,000 tonnes of n-butanol, an alcohol used to make other chemicals, and 11,000 tonnes of iso-butanol which is mainly used as a solvent.

Sabuco is a joint venture of local petrochemical firms including Saudi Kayan Petrochemical, Saudi Acrylic Acid and Sadara Petrochemical.
