Sacyr Concesiones (43%), Sacyr Construcción (8%) and local firm Grinor (49%) will build or restore, and manage, a 179km corridor between the cities of Nueva Palmira and Mercedes.

The concession has been signed for an initial 24-year term, while the investment is expected to be in excess of $160m, with a $365m (€340m) income portfolio, Sacyr announced last week.

The concession, awarded by Uruguay’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works, involves the building of the Nueva Palmira 8.5km bypass and the restoration of a two-lane highway.

According to Sacyr, Uruguay’s Deputy Minister for the Economy and Finance referred to the project as an important milestone that marks a new direction in the building of public works in the country.

Sacyr Concesiones CEO, Rafael Gómez del Rio (pictured), claimed that this award and others recently won in Colombia consolidated the firm’s "leadership in Latin America".
