Sweett Group appoints former Atkins director chief executive

UK-based construction consultant Sweett Group has appointed former Atkins director Douglas McCormick (pictured) as its chief executive officer.

McCormick has more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry and was until recently group managing director of Atkins Rail, where he managed a business that pulled in £200m in revenue and employed about 1,700 staff based in the UK, India and China.

Previously, McCormick was the commercial director of Metronet Alliance and Trans4m, and he has also been a project management director at QS Faithful + Gould.

John Dodds, the chairman of Sweett, had been standing in as chief executive after the departure of Dean Webster in October. He will revert to a non-executive chairman’s role when McCormick joins on 2 March.

Dodds said: "I am delighted to announce Douglas’ appointment as chief executive of Sweett Group.

"He has the ideal background and combination of skills to reinvigorate the company and I am looking forward to working with him in taking Sweett Group into the next stage of its development."
