Systra is to provide independent certification for the short, cross-border rapid transit link planned across the Straits of Johor between Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The 4km line is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2026. With ridership expected to be 10,000 passengers an hour in each direction at peak commuting times, the line is intended to cut congestion on the existing causeway.
Systra, with Minconsult and Bureau Veritas Singapore, was appointed independent verification and validation agent by the Malaysia’s transport ministry and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority.
They will need to certify that the rapid transit link meets the safety regulations of both Johor and Singapore.
The audit covers all phases from design to commissioning, operation and maintenance, plus all railway systems including automatic signalling, rolling stock and the control centre.
“Systra and its partners have just been awarded an emblematic project for two major clients,” said Daniele Coldebella, director of the Singapore Railway System Engineering Centre and Asia Systems director.
“It enables us to expand our references and our skills in independent certification on a cross-border line with high standards. This could help us win other work in the region, notably in Taiwan.”
