Team Skanska wins $918m LA railway contract

Regional Connector, a joint venture between Skanska USA and Traylor Brothers, has won a $918m design-and-build contract for the construction of a 1.3km underground rail link in downtown Los Angeles.

The project involves a double-track subway with three stations. Regional Connector will connect three other lines: the Metro Gold Line, the Metro Blue Line and the Metro Expo Line. This will create one north-south line between Long Beach and Azusa, and one east-west line from Santa Monica to East LA.

Mike Aparicio, a vice president of Skanska USA, said: "Projects like these change the way our region moves and enable new possibilities for the entire city. We are proud to build the Regional Connector."

Skanska is also working on the Exposition Line Phase 2 extension from Culver City to Santa Monica in a joint venture with Rados Construction.

The contract was awarded by The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Hatch Mott MacDonald is the design partner. Skanska’s share of the contract sum is $574m.
