T&T to project manage Galeries Lafayette’s Qatari department store

UK consultant Turner & Townsend has been appointed to project and cost manage the internal fit out of Qatar’s first department store by French retailer Galeries Lafayette.

The three storey, 14,000 square metre space is franchised by the Ali Bin Ali Group, a family-owned Qatari conglomerate.  

The interior of the department store, which will include 400 luxury clothing, accessory and homeware brands, will be designed by Parisian architect Bruno Moinard of 4BI & Associates.  

The store will be located in the Katara Retail Plaza shopping mall in Doha.

Ground cooling technology, which is also to be used to at the 2022 World Cup, will be help control the centre’s climate and enhance the shopping experience.  

The development will include a mall for children, a spa, shops, cafes, restaurants, offices, and a boutique hotel and landscaped park built on top of two storeys of basement parking.  

David Miller, general manager Galeries Lafayette in Doha, said: "We’re confident T&T’s experience and deep knowledge of the market in the Middle East will ensure the department store becomes a focal point for all visitors to the Katara Plaza."

Les Galeries Lafayette is expected to be completed before the end of 2017.
