A joint venture of Turner Construction, Flintco, Nickson General Contractors and Fifer & Associates has been selected to build an extension of Memphis’ Regional One Health facility.
The expansion will add facilities for trauma and burn victims, women and infants, oncology, and an expanded emergency department.
It will cost over $1bn, with Shelby County donating $500m and funding from philanthropists and other sources, The Memphis Flyer reports.
Design is by Nebraska-headquartered architect HDR along with local companies brg3s, Cornerstone, Meticulous and Self + Tucker Architects.
Structural engineering will be undertaken by Seattle’s Magnusson Klemencic Associates.
Reginald Coopwood, MD, Regional One Health’s president, said: “It is exciting news that we can announce the firms that were selected to design and construct the first academic medical centre in Memphis.”
Work on the project is estimated to create 3,600 construction jobs and 2,300 secondary roles, with over $693m in economic growth from 2023 to 2027.
